The 'Collar' by FREEJUMP® is an innovative design that has been created to improve rider position and balance, and is an effective tool to encourage the rider to have a lighter hand. Recognised by top riders and used in many riding schools worldwide, this unique piece of tack caters to both professional and amateur riders.
Developed with Eric Navet, and acclaimed by Ludger Beerbaum, the Freejump Collar solves many problems encountered with horses that can be difficult, upset, sensitive, or too voluntary, and horses with delicate and problematic mouths.
Made of rot-proof EVA foam and leather, the Collar consists of a breastplate-style strap that sits across the front of the horse's chest, and fastens to the d-rings on the saddle with simple snap hooks. Attached to the collar are two elasticated straps, one on each side, that have comfortable T-handles at the end. These are held by the rider, and allow them to connect their hands with the horse's neckline and maintain a consistent, gentle contact with the horse’s mouth.
The adjustment of the length of the elastic straps depends on whether the rider or the coach wants to work with a higher or lower hand. The ideal setting is found after several attempts and must allow the hand to act on both the mouth and the base of the neck.
