Woof Wear Mud Fever Boots - Black/Grey

My horse has the beginning of dermatitis on his heel bulbs from the morning dew. I am looking for something to keep that moisture away from his heels and lower legs. There is no mud in his pasture and the grass is mowed short. He is prone to stocking up when stalled, so I was wondering if this would be appropriate to keep his heel bulbs dry while allowing maximum turnout. Rather than have to stall him overnight to avoid that moisture in the mornings.

Hello Jenny, Woof Wear Mud Fever Boots are designed to keep the leg clean and dry from thick mud, the fabric is breathable yet waterproof so should definitely help with the morning dew however the bulbs of the heel would be in direct contact with the neoprene of the boot. This point of contact will naturally create more heat then the other areas of the boot due to the Kevlar strike pad above the neoprene, reducing the fabric breathability in this one area and potentially increasing moisture levels in the one area you are trying to reduce. Individual circumstances and environment setting, such as time spent wearing the boot and the fit will determine the effectiveness for this particular use. We hope this helps.

Are the large boots longer in length than the medium size?

Will these boots will fit over & keep mud from getting down into a hoof boot?

Hi Lauren, It's difficult to say without knowing which hoof boot your horse wears, but the Woof Wear Mud Fever Boots do have velcro straps to make fitting easier. I hope this helps.

Hello Paula, This boot can be used in a range of field conditions, however, it may not stay secure in deep mud if the mud comes over the top of the boot. The outer material will keep most moisture out, but is not waterproof. Hope this helps.

Hi Chantalunger, this listing has now been updated with a size guide. Going by this size guide we would say the Medium size for front and the Large size for Hind would be best suited. However, if you purchase these boots and you find they do not fit, you are more than welcome to return them to us for an exchange or refund. Hi Jacki, Providing you carry out daily checks, the boots can be worn indefinitely. The boots should be removed daily, and legs inspected, make sure all the hook and loop fastenings are clean and free of debris, and if all is well, pop them back on again. If the fastenings are not clean, they will be unable to stick and therefore won’t keep the boot secure. I hope this helps.
