Where It Started…

The very first Science Supplements products were the brainchild of Dr David Marlin, a scientist with 25 years’ experience in the horse industry who has worked with the FEI, IOC and as a consultant to the British Equestrian Teams since 1994.

Author of books and over 200 scientific papers, Dr Marlin developed these products to fulfil the need of his professional clients for quality supplements, containing high grade, clinically proven ingredients that work.

The Science Supplement Ethos

The Science Supplements ethos is to only produce products with demonstrated efficacy that address real problems and which have been proven to work through laboratory, clinical and field trials.

All Science Supplements products contain key ingredients that are clinically and scientifically proven to have benefits to performance, health and wellbeing. They do not contain unnecessary fillers and only use high grade, premium ingredients meaning your horse gets the best possible nutritional support.

Clear, simple, transparent labelling allows you to see how much of each ingredient goes into each product.

All products are manufactured to a strict code of feed safety, with their entire range tested for prohibited substances under the BETA NOPS scheme and are UFAS accredited.

What is BETA NOPS

The BETA NOPS scheme launched in 2009 and is designed to help eliminate the contamination of equine feed material with NOPS (Naturally Occurring Prohibited Substances), which could result in a positive drugs test for a competitor.

The BETA NOPS scheme is focussed on avoiding contamination in the first place as appose to just testing for contamination. This is a far safer than relying on batch testing alone.

All companies producing feed material for horses can choose to enrol in the scheme, even if their products are produced overseas.

FEI Legal Supplements – Supporting Clean Sport

The FEI classify drugs and certain feed materials (mainly herbs) as either banned or controlled. A banned ingredient is one that should never be fed or used on a horse registered with the FEI.

Whereas controlled substances are ones which we accept that may be useful at times, but cannot be used during competition. A drug example of a controlled substance would be Bute, a feed material example would be Devils Claw.

Therefore, for a feed or supplement to be “FEI Legal” it must not contain any banned or controlled substances.

Science Supplements do not use or allow any ingredients which appear on either list into their factory or to be included in any of their products.

4Feet

4Feet is a specialist dietary supplement that provides a concentrated source of the micronutrients, Biotin and Calcium, required for good hoof horn quality and growth. Using a unique, highly bioavailable form of Biotin, means more of the nutrients are absorbed leading to greater results.

This supplement is designed to reduce cracking and splitting and promote healthy skin and hair.

4Feet Plus

4Feet Plus contains a very high level of bioavailable D-Biotin. As Biotin is absorbed from the hindgut, 4Feet Plus also contains a high dose of a protected live yeast to help ensure a healthy hindgut environment.

Organic Zinc is included as horn is mainly composed of a protein called keratin and Zinc is vital for protein metabolism. Copper deficiency can have an adverse effect on horn and hair quality. The correct ratio between Zinc and Copper is important as these two trace elements interact. Methionine is a key amino acid as the production of horn involves the interaction between Methionine and keratin to produce a strong structure. MSM is a bioavailable source of sulphur and sulphur in turn is present in high amounts in keratin.

Changes in hoof growth and or quality can take 3-6 months to be apparent. After 3-6 months the new hoof growth below the coronet band should be smooth and the growth lines should be vertical and horizontal.

Complete Electrolytes

This is a palatable, fully balanced electrolyte supplement that is gentle on the stomach and replaces electrolytes in proportion to the amounts lost during exercise. Sub-optimal electrolyte intake is a frequent cause of poor performance in competition horses. Palatability problems with ordinary electrolytes can limit feed and supplement intake, cause irritation of the stomach and intestine, and has also been shown to irritate or cause gastric ulceration in horses.

Containing the 5 key electrolytes sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium and magnesium with Microencapsulation Technology means it dissolves in the small intestine where electrolyte uptake is optimal, and is both palatable and gentle on the stomach unlike ordinary electrolytes. The five major electrolytes are key nutrients required for nerve and muscle function, maintenance of normal hydration and normal function of the digestive system, kidneys, lungs and heart.

The Science Supplements Muscle Builder is suitable for any horse in training in any discipline to support muscle repair and recovery after exercise, and promote muscle strength, power and stamina

This supplement contains the key amino acids to support muscle development, HMB (B-hydroxy B-methylbutyrate), shown in studies to support the reduction of muscle protein breakdown, Leucine, one of nine essential amino acids which must be obtained from the diet as they cannot be synthesised from other components in feeds or forage, and L-Lysine, an essential amino acid which is considered to be the first limiting amino acid when it comes to protein synthesis (i.e. muscle growth) in horses.
