About the product
The Bucas Freedom 150g Full Neck Turnout Rug is a fantastic choice in outdoor wear for your horse when showers and cooler weather is forecast. It is crafted with a ripstop 600D outer that is both waterproof and breathable, with a silk-feel lining that is smooth against your horse’s skin and promotes a healthy coat.
What were your first impressions?
I absolutely love the look of this rug; the colours are so vibrant and fun, a nice change to the rest of her winter wardrobe. The rug is great quality with a ripstop outer layer and the silk-feel lining as well as the front buckle, which has a great extra safety feature with its Velcro cover. The rug is brilliant value for money and I will definitely be purchasing Bucas rugs in the future.
Sizing and Fit
This rug is ideal for fine horses with narrow shoulders, which is perfect for Millie as she is a petite thoroughbred. The rug is true to size and you can tell it fits instantly as it sits perfectly and fits like a glove, there were no areas on Millie where the rug was too tight, or baggy and it sat against her perfectly. The rug didn’t rub her at all which was great as she has super fine and sensitive skin, so can sometimes suffer from hair loss from ill-fitting rugs. At the top of the neck of the rug, it is a snugger fit which is great as it stops any rain going down her neck, meaning she was dry and warm the entire time she was wearing it.
How did you test the product?
Millie has been turned out in this rug 24/7, she has stayed out in the bad wind, rain and storms and has always come in warm and dry. She is a complete mud monster so it has been well tested by her rolling in every muddy patch she can find in the field. Millie is a frequent and fast shape thrower in the field, so she has also definitely tested her movement in the rug by zooming around the field which has confirmed she has a full range of movement in it.
What was your favourite feature?
I have a couple of favourite features:
I really like the T-bar front closure which also has a Velcro strap that covers it. I like this feature as it gives me piece of mind that the buckles won’t get stuck on anything whilst she is in the field, ensuring her safety if she were to get herself in a pickle with the fencing, which as you can imagine with her type is fairly frequent. I also love the silk-feel lining on the inside of the rug. This lining helps to give the horse a shinier coat and helps the condition of the horse’s skin. The silk-feel lining causes less friction than other linings, meaning the coat is flat against the horse making it appear super shiny and soft. It is perfect for Millie to wear the night before going trail hunting, as on the day she has a lovely shiny coat already, meaning there is less prep for me and more time for me to spend on other tasks. This rug is also liner-compatible, making it perfect for when the temperature drops. This means Millie can look gorgeous in her Bucas rug all year round.
