About the tester: Alica, who grew up in Germany, joined Redpost in 2021 and is known for her passion and in-depth knowledge about everything equine. She competes her horse Luna in dressage and showjumping and Luna is in foal for 2023 so will be taking some time off ridden activities.

About the product: Carr & Day & Martin ItchGard is a soothing, non-greasy lotion derived from plant extracts including Lemongrass, Marigold, Geranium and Menthol Oils, to calm and cool irritated skin on horses troubled by itching.

What were your first impressions? “When I first opened the bottle, I loved the smell of the product. Lots of Lotions I have tried before smell very strong and chemical. I also liked that the product has quite natural ingredients.”

How was the sizing? “The bottle was a really good size and it was great that I saw results just from using my first bottle!”

How did you test the product? “I did a patch test and made sure there was no reaction after 48 hours. I then used it on her tail everyday for the first 3 weeks as suggested. I now use it as and when I remember or when I feel like she starts getting itchy again.”

Before using Carr & Day & Martin ItchGard
2 weeks of use
After 4 weeks of use

What was your favourite feature? “I particularly loved that the product left no greasy residue and due to the natural smell you can just put it on with your hands and don’t need to worry about any reactions It worked as a great moisturiser for my hands too and left them smelling lush!”

Any other comments? “I will definitely purchase another bottle of the Itch Gard and I highly recommend it! I have tried so many different lotions, potions, and supplements to get Luna less itchy and to get her stop destroying her lovely thick tail.  As well as the Itch Gard, I also found that using some Carr & Day & Martin Coat Shine Conditioner all over helped relieve any friction from rugs, stopped most of the dirt and grease sticking to her coat, and stopped the hairs from breaking as much if she does have the odd scratch”
