EQ Riding and Exercise Key Information

  • Before use, riders and coaches should watch the instructional video provided in the EQ Blog before use and always have someone on the ground to help take the bands on and off.
  • Use the bands as described by your accredited coach or healthcare professional. Do not use the bands if you have any pain, difficulty breathing, sickness or dizziness. You should contact your healthcare provider in this instance.
  • Riders should use the exercise bands for short intervals (between 5-15 mins) when on the horse, particularly in the beginning stages until comfortable and you have gained more strength and stability.
  • The bands are designed for you to learn what your coach or specialist is saying to feel. We therefore recommend using the bands for no more than 25 minutes mounted and then taking the bands off to be able to feel what you felt with the bands on.
  • The rider’s alignment is critical in equestrian sport – when using the bands, shoulders should be square, back naturally straight, abdominals contracted, pelvis stabilised, bend at the elbows and knees, ankles being the lowest point, maintaining your stability and flexibility at all times.
  • Keep the knees relaxed to avoid locking
  • Muscle soreness/fatigue may be experienced over the first few days due to using different muscles and Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS). If your pain should persist for more than three days, consult your healthcare provider.
  • Do not exercise while experiencing pain either on or off the horse.
  • When using the EQ Bands, avoid positioning them anywhere close to the rider’s head as misuse may cause damage to the head/ eyes. Do not use these products in any manner that may cause them to snap towards the head and cause injury to eyes. When taking the bands off on the horse, always remove slowly from the rider’s heel first.
  • It is recommended when riding to avoid the use of jewellery; when using the EQ Bands this is particularly relevant to any loose items (necklace/ bracelets, ear-rings etc.)
  • Ensure that the EQ Band is securely fitted correctly and securely under a suitable riding boot, during use.
  • The EQ Bands should be used in arenas that are free from obstacles where entrapment to the horse or rider may cause injury (narrow entrances/ fences etc.).
  • For safety reasons it is recommended that the EQ Bands are fitting once in the riding arena and removed before exiting the arena.
  • Do not stretch product more than 4 times its resting length. This includes each loop individually and/or combined.
  • The EQ Bands should be fitted and removed with someone holding the horse whilst the rider is mounted.
  • Make sure your anchor point (Clip and fixed gold band) for ‘off the horse’ exercise is properly secure and can hold the desired weight.
  • There are multiple off the horse exercises available on our website and rehabmypatient.com, demonstrating specific rider exercises and stretches with the bands. Please consult your healthcare professional for individual advice.
