This years Foxhunter Champion came to its crescendo at the 2024 Horse of the Year Show, with Michaela Scott and Eddie G Z becoming this years winner.
We had the pleasure of sitting down with Michaela to hear about her incredible journey to the final and the superstar horse, Eddie. Owned by Michaela’s husband Sam Scott, Eddie has been produced by Michaela throughout his career, showcasing his talent and skill in the ring.
“I found ‘Eddie’ as an unbacked 3-year-old from Darren Smith in December 2019. He was produced through all the age classes and the BS national system, putting in good results along the way. He was always a very nice horse with a fantastic technique and great care, but Eddie only showed how special he was going to be when he came into his 7th year. Eddie was 2nd in the Winter Novice Final at RIHS and picked up three HOYS tickets (Newcomers, Talent Seekers, and Grade C), placing 6th in the Talent Seekers 2023.
The Redpost Foxhunter final was still always the aim. He qualified by winning at Southview, and that in itself was an achievement, something I have tried to qualify for as long as I’ve been riding in seniors; for me, that was a very special day, especially riding a horse I have produced myself.
This year, to prepare for the qualifier, Eddie and I stepped up to jump our first 2* GP, jumping clear and placing in the top 10. I believe this was the confidence boost we both needed heading into the qualifiers. Eddie is the winter Grade C champion, Winter B & C champion at RIHS, and National Grade C champion 2024. So, along with those titles and a few more places in some more 2* GPs, the Redpost Foxhunter final was the icing on the cake!
It’s a complete dream; if someone told me we were going to win, I still wouldn’t believe them! Eddie really deserves this title; he’s extremely consistent and very special. I’m super excited to see what he can do next! I also think it’s great to show how a horse can be carefully produced solely through our British system.
