Kathryn is the owner of Lilly, a fiery bay roan 7-year-old mare. The pair regularly compete in showjumping, dressage, and eventing and are aiming to move up the levels.

The Epiony Equine Heat Pad is an innovative design that can be used on humans, equines, canines, and more to provide drug-free pain relief from sore muscles and arthritic joints, or simply used for relaxation purposes to help reduce stress.

Heat therapy has a wide array of benefits; it dilates the blood vessels of the muscles which increases the flow of oxygen and nutrients, helping to heal the damaged tissue and increase the elimination of carbon dioxide and metabolic waste. Heat also stimulates the sensory receptors in the skin, which means that applying heat to any part of the body, on both people and animals, will decrease transmissions of pain signals to the brain and partially relieve discomfort.

I liked that the pad isn’t as bulky as some others on the market meaning it doesn’t take up a huge amount of room in the tack room. It’s easy to transport as it comes in a really handy carry bag which is great for when taking it out in the lorry to shows/camps and for when taking it home to use on yourself.

The pad is the perfect size for use on yourself or your animals, it’s great that you can use it on the horse’s neck or hocks as well as their back. However, if I were to just use it on my horse’s back I would probably go for the longer one that covers a wider area.

My mare can be cold-backed so I used the product on her back whilst grooming and doing yard jobs (this means she would have it on for around 30 minutes) before being ridden. The pad has definitely helped, she is easier to get on and doesn’t need so long to warm up, and feels more relaxed into the bridle and working across her back better. I have also used it on her neck as she can become tense in this area, the heat pad has allowed her muscles to soften after work.

I like that the pad has different heat settings and can be used on both humans and animals with different settings.
