TRUST Equestrian Sweet Iron Low Port Curbgag Bit

The TRUST Equestrian Sweet Iron Low Port Curbgag Bit is made of iron and has a well-known blue colour, obtained by heating during production. When in contact with (humid) air, Sweet Iron develops a rusty surface that tastes sweet and naturally stimulates the horse’s saliva production. This causes the horse to foam more, which in turn improves the acceptance of the bit. This rusting process (oxidation) changes the blue colour of the TRUST bits into silver or brown-grey, a desired effect of the Sweet Iron bits.

The Low Port is a straight mouthpiece with a low port. It leaves a bit more room for the tongue and allows for good pressure distribution on the layers. The port creates space for the tongue and reduces the pressure on the middle of the horse’s tongue.

The Curbgag is a combination of the Pelham and the Loose Ring Gag. A Curbgag is a loose ring with two small holes on each side for the leather curb strap to run through. The pressure points are on the chin and behind the ears. This cheekpiece can be used with one or two reins. It is most commonly used with two reins, one attached to the large ring and the other to the ring of the leather curb strap. This way, the rider can distribute pressure between the curb and the mouth.
