Alice Watson is an international showjumper based in Taunton with a growing string of horses from youngsters to Grand Prix. She has placed in 2 and 3* classes in both the UK and Europe, and is currently developing a promising string of horses with future success in mind.

A conscientious and dedicated horsewoman, Alice has worked hard to build both her horsepower and professional base in the Southwest. She has carefully and consistently produced her homebred, Extra Zest TH, who is emerging as an ever more exciting talent as she progresses through the levels.

Alice Watson’s Achievements

In 2015, Alice Watson secured her first Hickstead victory on Billy Lemon, beating 59 starters to claim the Tom Hudson Derby Trophy. Going up against some big names at the time, her win was a testament to her dedication and tenacity. She had missed six months of the previous year due to injury, and recalls with just the one standout horse at that level, she was often using her prize money to fund the next show entry – her successes did not come easy.

The duo went on to win numerous 1.45m world ranking classes. Over the next four seasons, they achieved top three placings in CSI2* classes in Oliva, Spain. In 2019 they were 2nd in the CSI2* at Chepstow, and placed 2nd in the CSI4* at Hickstead.

Billy Lemon was always going to be a tough act to follow, but Alice is now competing the mare’s offspring, her talented homebred, Extra Zest TH. By Big Star, Alice has taken a careful approach to the mare’s training, ensuring this special mare’s talent continues to shine in the years to come.

Extra Zest showed promise throughout the 2024 season, and young horses Pashmina and Omega V also had their podium moments, making their presence felt in young horse classes and showing serious scope for the future.

Alice also celebrated a decade-long dream by beginning a self-build at her yard. Creating a home where she can live alongside her horses, this was a huge personal milestone and a pivotal moment in Alice’s professional journey

2025 saw Alice and Extra Zest TH go from strength to strength, qualifying for the for the Speedi-Beet Grade C Championship at Horse of the Year Show. She finished 7th out of 107 starters in the National 6-Year-Old Championship at Hickstead in August with an impressive double clear. The talented duo also secured a golden ticket to the World Breeding and Young Horse Championship in Lanaken, Belgium, at the end of September.

They just missed out on a place in the final, but their performance highlighted their potential and it has been a joy to watch them go from strength to strength.

Alice Watson’s History

Alice comes from a non-horsey family, but had the determination to succeed in the equestrian world from a very early age. She recalls buying a pony for just £150 when she was 16 years old, a pony she then later sold for a small profit. A few more ponies were bought, produced and sold after that, and eventually (after completing A Levels and university at her parents’ insistence) she was able to buy a quality young horse that would launch her showjumping career.

As an amateur rider straight out of university, she was fortunate to acquire the 5 year old Billy Lemon direct from The Billy Stud, and the rest (as they say) is history!

Alice’s current ride (6 year old homebred, Extra Zest Th) is superbly bred, by Big Star and out of Billy Lemon, and is already making waves on the home and international circuit.

Recent Notable Results

August 2024 Pashmina double clear in the National 4yo Final, finishing =1st and earning a share of both the 4yo and 4yo British Bred Bonus Prizes.

August 2024 British Young Horse Championships, Hickstead. Pashmina =1st place in both qualifiers. Omega V =1st in the 5yo qualifier.

August 2025 – Alice and Extra Zest TH qualified for the Speedi-Beet Grade C Championship at this year’s Horse of the Year Show.

August 2025 - National 6-Year-Old Championship at Hickstead. Extra Zest TH came 7th out of 107 starters with a double clear round.

September 2025 Lanaken, Belgium. Extra Zest TH just missed out on a place in the final but offered an impressive performance, showing that they are a combination to watch for the future.

April 2026 – Alice and Extra Zest TH achieved a double clear and 6th place in the 1.35m/ 1.40m, 7 and 8 year old final at the Welsh Masters.

Alice’s Current Top Horses

Extra Zest TH: Alice’s top horse is a bay, 7 year old homebred mare who is already proving to be a talented contender and an exciting propsect for the future. Currently jumping at 1.40m.

Pashmina TH: A talented 6 year old British-bred showjumping mare who has been ridden and produced by Alice. Sired by Highway TN and out of an Eldorado van de Zeshoek mare, the young horse is quickly making a name for herself in prestigious young horse championships and national tracks.

Mubalu GE: A 9 year old gelding by Inspiration VDL, Mubalu is owned by Asha and Craig Overton. The gelding has experienced success in Senior Newcomers classes with Alice this season and is a capable competitor at national level.

Sublime TH: Another homebred out of Alice’s beloved Billy Lemon and sired by the elite stallion Untouchable, this 5 year old mare is showing considerable scope at Novice level and Alice has been impressed by her incredible rideability, ‘pony’ like brain, turn of speed and fantastic temperament.

Viva Lemon Forever TH: Also out of Billy Lemon and sired by Vivant, this talented 5 year old mare is already offering some impressive clears around Discovery and Novice tracks. Alice hopes that she will be another homebred superstar in the making and we can’t wait to watch their progress.
